Spam Filters are software that rejects some of your electronic mail as spam as it goes by certain logic set by either you or the mail server. Many mail servers have stringent rules on basis of which they restrict the entry of certain mails to your inbox. This prevents your computer from getting corrupted with some virus or malware. If you use a wireless network to connect to the internet, you would need some measure or tool to ensure WiFi Security which is becoming important as more and more laptops and computers are being used with the WiFi connectivity.

These days many companies do their marketing activities using the web by sending e-mails. Even people you send permission-based mails get categorized as spam mails. Nearly 1/5th of the mail get categorized as spam mails by these Spam Filters. If you are sending mail in bulk then it is essential for you to understand how these spam filters work.

Spam Filters normally have a very long list of criteria by which they are able to judge whether the mail is useful or a spam. The Spam Filters software assigns points to various combinations of words. Depending on these points the electronic mail is concluded as spam or a wanted mail to be transferred over the web. So the score of the points has to be below a particular value to prevent the mail from being marked as a spam.

Spam Filters would be evolving software as everyday the criteria will keep on changing. It is best to avoid phrases like “Click here” and “Once in a lifetime opportunity”. Do not use too many exclamation marks in your mail. Prevent writing in all caps. These will lead your mail to be marked as a spam mail. Do not color the writing in red or green. It is the servers which consider the mail to be a spam.

If you have been in great hurry to install your WiFi router and have not taken care of wifi security then your neighbors might be able to use your WiFi connection to browse the web. This means your bandwidth is getting reduced as you and your neighbor are both using the same connectivity to browse the World Wide Web. You will experience slower browsing speed. The other computer may able to see the data stored in your computer.

When you install the router for the WiFi, you can access the account using a password and username which is quite generic. Now you should change this password and username to something unique for yourself. If you fail to do this then you are breaking the first fundamental rule of wifi security.

Assigning static IP addresses to devices to prevent others from knowing your actual IP address will also help increase wifi security. Moreover, the default SSID for the access points and the router should also be changed to reduce the chances of hacking of WiFi connection by unwanted people. The aim through wifi security is to prevent unauthorized access of your machine through the web. If you notice that your neighbors WiFi is not secured and you enter this WiFi network and browse the web then it is unethical too. You are exposing your machine to outsiders and so reducing your own machine’s security. Even if you have spam filters installed you may receive virus or malicious code through the other network. You should always secure your system against such attacks.

When you are connecting to the web using WiFi it is extremely important that the wifi security is high and unwanted users do not utilize your WiFi network.

Many internet marketers know about the spam filters threat. However, it is really surprising to see that besides the less experienced marketers, even many people known as internet marketing experts don’t have a clue on how to deal with spam filter triggers properly. Today’s article tries to wake you up and take you from the amateurs crowd to the next level.

First of all, what are spam filter triggers? They are common words and expressions that are penalized by spam filters. When the penalty points assigned to a certain email message pass over a certain threshold, that message is usually routed to the intended recipient’s spam folder, rejected or even deleted at server level.

How to deal with such a problem?

The first part of the solution is relatively easy to accomplish: identify the problem words and expressions. Most of the third party services used to broadcast your email marketing messages (for example: AWeber) include pieces of software that point the words which trigger the filters. If you don’t use such a service, it’s still not difficult: search on Google for spam filter triggers and you’ll find many helpful articles.

The real challenge follows: you identified the problem words but what do you do next?

The worst and the most spread method was “invented” by someone quite many years ago and a lot of internet marketers copied it like parrots without checking whether the idea is right or wrong. What was that “great” idea? If you are subscribed to some newsletters, it’s impossible not to notice it: misspelling the words. Thus, money became m0ney, free became f’ree or f.r.e.e. or fr.ee, money back guarantee became m0ney back g’uarantee, etc.

Why is this solution the worst one?

Reason # 1: In marketing, image matters a lot. What do you think your image is in most of your readers’ mind, when they see that your emails are full of typing and grammatical errors? Most of your readers never heard about spam filter triggers. Whether you like it or not, for them “m0ney” is exactly what is it for almost everyone except you: a typing error. In such case, how’s your credibility?

Reason # 2: Many spam filters were now taught to penalize also weird spellings like “f.r.e.e.”, so you’re not actually solving anything.

Reason # 3: Gmail (and maybe more web-based email service providers) makes the word “fr.ee” clickable and there is a bigger surprise: that website exists (though it’s still under construction). Result: some of your readers will click on these links and some of your traffic will be diverted.

Then … what to do? Well, it’s very easy: remove the problem words and replace them by synonyms (or expressions having a similar meaning) that are not penalized themselves.

Example: instead of “100% money back guarantee” you can use “every penny back if you’re not 100% thrilled/satisfied”

P.S. If you want to improve the deliverability of your emails, whether they are solo ads or newsletters, I highly recommend you to read the special report “How to Avoid Spam Filters”.

As the email is one of the most depended communication systems, keeping a check on the filter service in the email accounts is of prime importance. Few years back, emails were used for sending message to long distance users or to keep in touch. As the globalization has made the world a smaller place to live in, literally, the emails are used more for commercial purposes rather than a friendly message.

Businesses are being conducted and agreements being signed through the email accounts. Companies are having their own domains for emails which are provided to the employees. Much information flows under the bridge of emails. The information therefore can be intercepted to get various benefits by people with unsavory intents.

With the use of , people can send hundreds of emails through these relays without having to pass through the ISPs and their servers. Most of the marketing protocols work with such relay services. This is something that could be potentially utilized by people to send spam mails to different accounts.

With the , the spam mails can be filtered out from the valid incoming emails. Some kinds of filters also are used to inspect outgoing emails and are seen in companies which try keeping a tab on the employee activities. More recent spam filters can also categorise the different mails according to subject or senders.

is becoming manual which can be set by the users themselves. They can also set them as part of their mail clients. The manual filters can then filter the incoming mails according to the provided criteria. In many cases nowadays, the internet service providers are also providing .

To further the safety methods, the ISPs are also able to filter the URLs of malicious links from the mail so that the viruses are not found in the mail. can be a source of headache for the email account users. Especially for the large business establishments where thousands of emails can be received, the spams can wreck havoc if not monitored properly.

These filters can work by matching an expression which appears regularly. Most of the times keywords in the text or in the email address of the sender, is recognized and branded as email spam. A good technique to recognize the pornographic images have been done by using image filtering which recognizes the skin tones and body shapes.

The arena of is expanding by leaps and bounds. New technologies like the are being introduced to customize the emails so that the email users can be assured of a quality service. Days are now ripe for revolutionary systems of internet and its protections. A basic concept of separating the emails according to their characteristics has now become effective . And, the use of this service is being looked as the methodology of the future where each mail is scanned for possible virus or malware to prevent the end user customers.

Unsolicited email or spam emails is one of the major growing problem in the world of internet. It involves sending identical messages to numerous recipients via email. Email spam has steadily grown since the early 1990′s. Botnets, networks of virus-infected computers, used to send about 80% of spam. And it doesn’t cost much to a sender of spam emails than to the recipient; since that time, spam emails filled with viruses have become a headache for every internet user.

Your personal emails or PCs can be protected very easily when it comes to internet security with help of various tools; but organizations which work on large servers and use their own email accounts for work they have to go for a strong service. In this case there are two types of spam filtering; client-based and server-based. Client-based systems run on end-user machines, while server-based systems run either at the or the POP/IMAP server. Of the client-based systems, some are integrated with email clients while others run as separate applications.

There are three common methods used by software to detect spam, namely, signature filtering, blacklist / white list, and pattern matching. Many packages employ two or more of these methods to provide

Signature Filtering: works in a manner similar to virus scanning: some central authority maintains a database of known spam signatures (a signature is the result of an algorithm that produces a comparatively short string of characters to uniquely identify a longer message). If a user receives an unwanted message that is not currently included in the signature database, the user can then submit the message to the database authority. A signature of the message is then calculated and included in the database. Subsequently, that message is blocked as spam for all users.

Blacklist/Whitelist Filtering: works by maintaining a list of the email addresses or domains of known spammers and another list of known-good senders. Any messages originating from or routed through an address or domain on the blacklist are rejected and any messages from an address or domain on the whitelist are accepted. Some packages use only a blacklist, some use only a whitelist and some use both. For blacklists, many packages use a central database (similar to a signature database), some use a site-local database and others require each user to define their own blacklist. For whitelists, most packages require users to create their own list.

Pattern Matching: defines a set of criteria that potentially indicate when a message is spam. Such criteria include lines of text in all caps, phrases frequently included in spam, suspicious header lines, etc. Typically, each criterion is assigned a point value. The user can then set the point threshold, and any messages that score at or higher than the threshold is marked as spam. Some newer systems allow the user to ‘train’ the software to recognize spam or exempt messages from being identified as spam.

Many of us get flooded with spam in our personal mailboxes. Flooding junk boxes seem to act as a common form of advertising these days. The top most reason would be its high cost effectiveness as well as ease of maintenance. Due to this, ad hoc computer programs from the 1990s started using anti spam filters as a means to fight spam.

Filtering programs these days have become wiser in identifying spam messages. Messages that are purposely forged to look similar to messages sent through Outlook Express will be considered as spam. This also goes for messages that only comprise of an image are also considered as spam. Why? This is done by spammers to prevent anti spam software from checking the text.

If there are altered or missing headers such as the “sender” field, it is also indicative of spam. This is done by spammers to complicate sender identification. The same case if messages contain unusual or misspelled words. This method is used by spammers to avoid Bayesian filtering. It is actually the most effective technique of spammers which is why many anti spam software developers are seeking to find the best technique to detect it.

Now that spams are making people turn into Science and other anti spam filtering devices, it is only with hope that software like the Bayesian filter can detect it using probability algorithms. These filters are based on the so-called “Bayes rule”. It is a theory of “conditional probability which estimates the likelihood of an event given the certainty of another event”. Explaining further, the rule implies that “the likelihood of an event to occur in the future can be inferred to the number of time it has occurred in the past”.

So if you will think of spam, this can only mean that once you break a message into discrete elements and you end up finding particular elements that seem to recur frequently in spam but not in ordinary mail then that would be the message contained is SPAM.

Bayesian filters are a type of plug-in which has a built-in database suitable for collecting messages as well as an inference engine used for assigning probability ratings. When a message arrives, it will rate them, vet individual elements and assign a composite rating for each message as a whole. It then copies them into the database. If the rating indicates a high probability that the message is a spam, filters will block it from the inbox. Users can also flag any spam that attempts to get through.

Spam is unsolicited and unwanted email. Other common names of spam are spam mail, bulk email or just junk mail. Today, spam has reached such monumental proportions that almost every other message we receive is spam. Protecting the inbox with anti-spam filter has become one of the barest necessities for almost all PC users.

In a few words, anti-spam software helps detect spam. It is a program that detects unsolicited and unwanted e-mails, and doesn’t let them slipping into your inbox. The anti-spam program is installed onto your computer and filters your inbound emails. The email filtering is carried out based on a number of criteria. These can be specific words in the subject line or in the body of the message, type of files attached to the message, images embedded into the message. You could set the filter to check the sender’s email address out. If you have your own whitelist or address book with trusted email addresses, you could arrange the anti-spam filter to refer to that whitelist. It also can detect known spammers by checking a blacklist of habitual spam senders maintained by certain Internet Service Providers. If the email sender is on the blacklist, the message is rejected.

Anti-spam filters have adapted to the wiles of the spammers. They use techniques that do not trash legitimate emails by effectively analyzing the content of the email. Such software looks for keywords and tries to interpret their meanings in the sentences. Certain spam filters reject the messages if they come to you in the form of “Undisclosed Recipients”, and accept the emails where your email address is in the “To” or “Cc” fields.

Anti-spam filter is an essential part of your computer’s security tools if you want to ensure that you only receive the emails you want. Now you can select the right anti-spam software for your computer and start fighting spam.
