Messaging Architects Releases the First Multi-Engine Messaging Firewall Appliance: GWGuardian 3.0 delivers complete Anti-Virus, Anti-Spam and SMTP protection to the Enterprise

Montreal, Canada (PRWEB) February 18, 2004

Messaging Architects, a provider of enterprise-class email security and enhancement software for the Novell GroupWise market, announced today the release of GWGuardian Appliance, an integrated messaging firewall that operates as a dedicated server that shields customers’ email servers from virus, spam and hacker attacks with its 14 layers of security. GWGuardian Appliance leverages the Messaging Architects current third-generation secure messaging firewall software application. GWGuardian’s unique effectiveness relies on an amalgamation of multiple specialized anti-spam engines to provide astonishing results of 98.2% spam catch rate and 99.99% protection against false positives saving its customers thousands of dollars without disrupting regular email service.

“GWGuardian’s multi-layered architecture is designed to reduce the pressure on the most CPU-intensive processes of an organization’s email server. Each one of the scanning stages is intelligently ordered in a way to block spam and viruses at the earliest possible step in the scanning process, yielding maximum CPU throughput to process the more complex, often intentionally malformed messages that manage to get by other anti-spam solutions,” said Charles Nguyen-Huu, Messaging Architects’ eMarketing Director. “The appliance is also delivered hardened and integrates with the McAfee award-winning anti-virus engine to combat the proliferation of new blended security attacks”

The pre-installed and pre-configured system streamlines the deployment process, delivering fast “time to protection” and combining the benefits of an appliance – lower procurement costs, streamlined installation and configuration, and zero set-up time.”We are so pleased with going for GWGuardian+ AV appliance. With the time constraints I face, I don’t want to administer and monitor; I want to just turn a switch and have everything working. GWGuardian appliance coupled with the Messaging Architects Fast-Track Professional Services gave me that. Within two days of discussing my requirements we had a fully working system in place. The installation process was painless and the anti-spam solution is doing exactly what it said it would with zero administration effort on my part,” comments Mick Davey, IS/IT Manager, BSI Management Systems.

GWGuardian Appliance is an autonomous system that is deployed behind the corporate firewall and in front of the email server. It supports clustering for load balancing and emergency failover and is cross-platform compatible with any SMTP-based email server, such as Novell GroupWise, Novell NetMail, Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes, etc.

Availability

GWGuardian Appliance is available in two models, Corporate (for up to 1000 users) and Enterprise (over 1000 users), comes with a year of parts and labor warranty, and includes the option of 24-hour cross-shipment replacement of fully configured units. Barracua Networks Announces Spam and Virus Firewall

Los Altos, CA (PRWEB) October 13, 2003

Barracuda Networks announced today the Barracuda Spam Firewall, a scalable anti-spam and anti-virus product line. The Barracuda Spam Firewall provides businesses with an enterprise-class spam and virus protection solution which is easy to use and affordable. A single box can block from 1 to 10 million spam messages, as well as viruses, every day. The Barracuda Spam Firewall is automatically updated hourly to block new forms of spam and viruses. At a starting price is $ 1,199, the Barracuda Spam Firewall can be installed in front of the email server in typically less than five minutes. Today, in a separate announcement, Barracuda Networks also announced its reseller program.

“Spam is growing at an alarming rate, forcing companies of all sizes to find effective ways to control this massive productivity disruption,” said Dean Drako, President and CEO of Barracuda Networks. “With the Barracuda Spam Firewall we have created a powerful solution that is easy to use and automatically maintained.”

The Barracuda Spam Firewall supports from 1,000 to 10,000 active users with no per user licensing fees. Its architecture leverages open source virus and spam solutions in conjunction with eight defense layers: denial of service and security protection, IP block list, rate control, virus check with archive decompression, proprietary virus check, user specified rules, spam fingerprint check, and a spam rule-based scoring system with Bayesian analysis. The architecture minimizes the processing of each email, which yields the performance required to process millions of messages per day. Unlike software solutions, the Barracuda Spam Firewall reduces the load placed on the email server by off-loading both spam and virus filtering. Barracuda Networks also offers the Energize Update subscription service to automatically update the Barracuda Spam Firewall with the latest spam rules and virus definitions.

NMCGroup, an industrial plastics manufacturer has approximately 800 employees of which 300 use email extensively. “My employees were spending so much of their time weeding through spam emails, often times deleting important emails in the process, that we couldn’t get our work done,” said Robert Stephen, General Manager of NMCGroup. “The Barracuda Spam Firewall has turned email into a productive business tool again. We are very pleased.”

Pricing and Availability

Barracuda Networks Spam Firewall Family is available immediately. There are three models. The Barracuda Spam Firewall 200 blocks up to 1 million messages per day, supports 1,000 active users and is priced at $ 1,199 with an Energize Update subscription of $ 249 per year. Xtrawise Anti-Spam Filter Offers Firewall Level Protection Against Spam

(PRWEB) November 5, 2003

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Xtrawise Anti-Spam Filter Offers Firewall Level Protection Against Spam

Oakham, Rutland (PRWEB) November 5 2003 – Xtrawise.com today announced Xtrawise Anti-Spam Filter for Microsoft Windows, a desktop email filter for consumers and businesses offering extensive protection against the growing menace of Spam and malicious email attachments.

Xtrawise Anti-Spam Filter offers unprecedented ease-of-use by automatically intercepting email once installed without any complex email client configuration requirement or need to change the way email is collected. Bayesian filtering determines the probability that incoming email is Spam by examining every part of the message. If the indicators are negative the message is delivered to the email client as usual. Otherwise the message can be either silently deleted – with the ‘From’ address stored in the activity log – or quarantined to a hard disk folder for automatic deletion after a specified number of days, thus allowing the user time to review messages pending deletion. Each time an email is sent or received the probability database is updated to improve future filtering performance.

Xtrawise Anti-Spam Filter includes safeguards to reduce the occurrence of ‘false positives’ – wanted email erroneously classified as Spam. Subject passphrases – similar to passwords but usually including multiple words – can be defined. When these are detected in the ‘Subject’ field of incoming email the messages are instantly delivered to the email client without further filtering. Blocked and trusted sender email addresses – or even entire domains – can be defined resulting in automatic delivery or deletion of messages. The user can opt to accept incoming mail from trusted senders only. Xtrawise Anti-Spam Filter can automatically reply to emails from non-trusted senders on the user’s behalf, adding a question that can only be answered by a person and when that person correctly replies the email is delivered. Spam is mostly automatically generated and so a response to the challenge will likely never be received.

Xtrawise Anti-Spam Filter protects the user from malicious email attachments. Before attachments are delivered to the email client any executable windows filetypes are harmlessly renamed – with the original filename recorded in the activity log – providing protection against accidental or impulse opening of malicious email attachments. In addition, HTML tags that are able to launch executable files or record the successful opening of Spam messages can be safely removed from incoming mail. If a Trojan, Virus or Worm compromises the user’s computer, Xtrawise Anti-Spam Filter provides a visual indication whenever applications begin broadcasting to the Internet by email, HTTP or Internet Relay Chat by displaying a flashing icon. An outbound email lock can be instantly engaged to prevent a Virus or Worm from spreading further.

Xtrawise Anti-Spam Filter blocks Windows Messenger Service popup windows by default. The Windows Messenger Service is increasingly being abused by Spammers to deliver unsolicited advertisements to computers running Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

The partnership of adaptive Bayesian filtering and safeguard options such as challenge/response authentication and subject passphrases dramatically reduce the occurrence of ‘false positives’, an issue which has until now proved to be the major failing of Anti-Spam products. Xtrawise Anti-Spam Filter enables the user to eliminate junk email without fear of missing important correspondence.

Pricing and Availability

Xtrawise Anti-Spam Filter for Microsoft Windows is available now for download and free trial. A single user license can be purchased from US$ 34.95 including one year’s support and updates.

Xtrawise.com was founded to develop and publish innovative, easy-to-use and affordable IT security software for all versions of Microsoft Windows.

Barracuda Networks Adds Outbound Email Protection to Entire Barracuda Spam Firewall Line

Cupertino, CA (PRWEB) June 20, 2005

Barracuda Networks, Inc., the leading provider of enterprise-class spam firewall solutions, today announced the integration of its powerful outbound email filtering capabilities into the full Barracuda Spam Firewall line. Protection for outgoing email was previously offered only with the Barracuda Spam Firewall – Outbound Mode product line, which launched earlier this year. With today’s announcement, organizations can now ensure all outgoing email is legitimate and virus-free, while at the same time continuing to provide the same high quality protection for inbound email that they have come to depend on with the Barracuda Spam Firewall.

“We perfected our outbound email filtering capabilities with the Barracuda Spam Firewall- Outbound Mode and have integrated the key features of this technology across all Barracuda Spam Firewall models,” said Dean Drako, president and CEO of Barracuda Networks. “We believe the ability to filter inbound and outbound email in one appliance simultaneously will be especially beneficial for small and medium sized businesses that require essential, yet powerful and secure, outbound email capabilities.”

Key outbound filtering techniques to be included with the full Barracuda Spam Firewall line include:

Barracuda Networks Rate Control System for protection against open relays and zombie PCs within the corporate network

Robust outbound email virus filtering

Outbound email attachment scanning

Corporate disclaimer attachments (footers)

Secure email relays for traveling or remote workers (controlled by IP, domain, or email address and utilizing SASL authentication with LDAP or SMTP Auth Proxy)

Support for inbound and outbound SSL/TLS encryption

More advanced outbound email filtering capabilities including: outbound email quarantine, email compliance filtering for corporate policies and government regulations such as HIPAA and Sarbanes Oxley, outbound keyword and regular expression scanning, and outbound whitelisting, will still be available exclusively with the Barracuda Spam Firewall – Outbound Mode product line.

Such features are crucial for larger enterprises that require more comprehensive protection for outgoing email.

“For larger enterprises, many of which must adhere to corporate or regulatory policies, we believe the most effective architecture for outbound email protection is through a separate, more robust solution,” said Drako. “As such, we will continue to offer the full Barracuda Spam Firewall – Outbound Mode product line as an alternate approach for these customers outbound email filtering needs.”

Outbound email filtering techniques will be immediately available for all new Barracuda Spam Firewall customers and will be made available for free to current customers via a firmware update to be released next week. Cyberoam Unveils Unique User Identity-based Firewall in UTM

Ahmedabad, India (PRWEB) August 4, 2006

Elitecore technologies, vendor of Cyberoam Unified Threat Management (UTM) appliances has introduced a unique user identity-based firewall that delivers consolidated, single-point security in the integrated security appliance.

Three factors form the key to providing comprehensive security without compromising business flexibility in a UTM. The critical issue is of single point control over the multiple security solutions. Next are high levels of granularity and complete ease of use.

Cyberoam solves these three issues through new developments that include user identity-based firewall, enabling consolidation of multiple security features, schedule-based access to network components, assignment of application based QoS and application prioritization & routing for interactive applications like VoIP, in addition to a browser-based user-friendly installation wizard.

Faced with multiple solutions in a single box, administrators continue to struggle with multiple policy creation, forcing them to work with the complexity of managing individual solutions in a single box, says Harish Chib, VP-Marketing, Cyberoam. This defeats the purpose of an integrated security appliance. Cyberoam brings to administrators the real simplicity of an integrated security appliance by offering a unified view and single point control over multiple security features.

Cyberoam ensures this through its user-identity based firewall that embeds user identity in the firewall rule matching criteria unlike traditional firewalls that allow firewall rule creation based only on source and destination IP addresses. While eliminating the need for IP addresses as intermediate components to identify and control the user, user identity binds all the security features – Firewall, VPN, Anti-virus, Anti-spam, Intrusion Detection and Prevention, Content Filtering, Bandwidth Management and Multiple Link Management – to create a single, consolidated Cyberoam security unit rather than let them function in a disconnected fashion.

This allows administrators to change security policies dynamically while accounting for user movement – joiner, leaver, rise in hierarchy – through easy to configure policies.

In a key development that enhances granularity, Cyberoam addresses enterprise need to offer temporary access rights to users by allowing schedule to be attached to the firewall rule. IT administrators can now create temporary rights for one time access to network components, eliminating the continued existence of such rights past their requirement, says Chib. For example, they can create 30 minutes access to FTP server to the user, John on a particular day at the end of which John will no longer have access to the server.

Further, Cyberoam offers application-based QoS so that administrators can ensure high quality in interactive applications like VoIP, video conferencing. They can even prioritize bandwidth, ranging from 0 to 7 for these applications and can route it via high speed Internet links out of multiple ISP links, ensuring high quality interaction.

Thirdly, Cyberoam simplifies the complex task of network configuration with a new intuitive browser-based user-friendly wizard, which reduces the need for technical expertise for configuring Cyberoam.

Cyberoam version 9.1.0.0 holds the above features.

“Security software companies are clearly not abandoning the market to predatory tactics by Microsoft, which entered this market to great debate with OneCare and other products,” said Mikhail Penkovsky, Agnitum’s vice president of global sales and marketing. “We know from our own and from independent testing that users deserve better — and third-party firms are eager to provide their customers with best-of-breed security tools.”

“BullGuard chose Outpost Firewall because of its consistently high scores in our in-house evaluations and the high regard with which the product is held amongst both users and reviewers worldwide. By combining the solid firewall engine technology offered by Agnitum, our user-interface and the unique BullGuard components offered in BullGuard Internet Security, we believe we have one of the strongest PC security suites available on the market today,” said Alexander Staun-Rechnitzer, head of the Mobile Division at BullGuard Ltd.

“We are delighted to partner with Agnitum to offer our customers the most advance firewall technology to protect their PCs against most Internet threats”, said Sanjay Katkar, chief technology officer at CAT.

These new agreements follow a string of deals under which Agnitum licensed its firewall technology to Novell, Sophos, Lavasoft and Buhl-Data, among others.

“Agnitum entered the firewall market back in 2002 — and it quickly became obvious that Outpost Firewall Pro is one of the technology leaders in the marketplace,” said Penkovsky. “Our licensing portfolio grows every year — and we expect to sign more deals with worldwide security software vendors, just as we expect Microsoft to begin to ship Windows Vista and then patch it after hackers break it open.

“Users demand advanced protection tools,” said Penkovsky. “That’s why Outpost Firewall Pro technology remains very attractive.”
